Ferran Gesa, PhD, is a lecturer and researcher at the Departament d’Educació Lingüística, Científica i Matemàtica at the Universitat de Barcelona (Spain), where he coordinates the 'Emerging Methodologies in English Language Teaching (EMELT)' teaching innovation group. His research interests include vocabulary learning from video viewing, content comprehension, vocabulary size, and the role that individual differences play in language learning. He is currently investigating how GenAI can aid foreign language teaching and learning in higher education.

His research has been published in renowned international journals such as Language Teaching Research or ITL - International Journal of Applied Linguistics, among others, as well as in edited volumes published by Routledge or John Benjamins. He has recently co-edited a volume on foreign language learning through original version audiovisual input, published by Springer.

He has also participated in national and international research projects, and his work has been presented in many international conferences like EuroSLA, AAAL or AESLA. In 2021, he was distinguished with the Extraordinary PhD Award by the Universitat de Barcelona.
